The Story

In 2009, the bar/nightclub Beauty Bar was listed for sale. Michael Rossler and Dannielle Cobb purchased the bar. They had been given photos of what was the original bar in the space, Til-Two Club. They had been given to one of the owners of The Beauty Bar by original owner, Moretta. Rossler and Cobb decided to return the bar to it’s original name and restore it. They had the original neon duplicated, restored the glass block on the facade. It was nominated for a Historic Preservation Award.

Til-Two Club continued to operate and bands such as Too Short, The Undertones, The Spits, Marky Ramone, Ghoul, Phobia, The Garden, The Dickies, Agnostic Front, Zero Boys, Shannon and the Clams, Hunx and his Punx, Deadbolt, The Gears, and many more performed at the club.

In 2016 the property was sold and the new owner built low-income housing behind the club and took away the bar’s stage area to build parking spaces. Bands continued to play in the smaller space, such as The Quakes, Throwrag, etc. In 2018, Rossler and Cobb sold the bar to spend more time with their family.

In March 2018, Chef Alex Carballo and his wife, Melissa signed a business purchase agreement for the bar and created the entity Til Two, LLC to manage the bar. Part of the terms for the sale was a Note for $120,000 for part of the payment for the bar. It was later revealed that Carballo’s business partner was a wealthy woman named Julie Darling. Escrow was very lengthy, but finally closed in January 2019.

Soon after, a rift arose between the partners. Wealthy partner Julie Darling accused Alex Carballo of embezzlement. She had attorney Craig Sherman prepare documents giving Carballo three choices. One was to pay back the money she accused him of taking. Another option was to give up his shares in the LLC and walk away debt free. Carballo chose to walk away and give up his shares in the LLC.

Criminal defense attorney Matt Koken and his spouse Delanie Gomes were asked by Julie Darling to become partners in Til Two, LLC. The original documents called for a financial contribution of $120,000 by Koken and Gomes. That figure is almost exactly what was owed on the Note to Rossler. According to documents submitted into discovery, the agreements was changed, and Koken and Gomes were allowed by Darling to invest zero money in exchange for partnership in Til Two, LLC.

The following day after becoming members of the LLC, attorney Koken sent Michael Rossler a Transfer Agreement which stated he was releasing Carballo and Til Two, LLC from any debt. Rossler did not sign the agreements. Koken then tried recruiting staff from Rossler’s bar to work for him and book entertainment for him.

Til Two, LLC continued to pay the monthly debt on the Note, knowing that they were obligated to pay it. However, after only six months of paying on the Note, in the beginning of January 2020, Til Two, LLC had attorney Goonan sent a certified letter to Rossler stating hey were not obligated to pay and that no further payments would be made by Til Two, LLC.

Rossler’s attorney, responded with copies of the contracts obligating Til Two, LLC to pay the Note. Goonan and the Til Two, LLC ignored all correspondence. Demands for payment were sent every month, and Til Two, LLC did not respond. Having no other option, Rossler filed a complaint in Civil Court for Breach Of Contract. The case is public record and all can be accessed at the Register of Assets.
